This edition of Tech Tips is aimed at helping everyone perform some basic and important routine maintenance. "A" is for anti-virus. Who got a new computer last year for Christmas? If you did, then it's likely the one-year antivirus subscription has expired or is close to expiring. Don't let the presence of the little icon (whether Norton, McAfee or otherwise) give you a false sense of security that you're protected. Even though some programs have pop-up reminders about subscription renewal, it's surprising how many people let their coverage lapse. Double-click that icon and check your status. When was the last update? When was the last scan? Are you protected from more than just viruses? Other types of malware can include rootkits and spyware. A good protection package should address all three.
