Ex-Topshop brand director takes over Whistles

Jane Shepherdson, former Topshop brand director, has teamed up with Baugur, the Icelandic investor, to acquire upmarket chain Whistles in her long-awaited high street comeback.

Shepherdson, who left Topshop suddenly in October 2006, will become chief executive of Whistles as part of the deal. She is to be joined by Keith Wilks and Jo Farrelly, who both worked with her at Philip Green's retail chain, as finance and marketing directors respectively. Karen Fenn, who took over from Shepherdson as Topshop brand director, is also thought to be joining the team.

The deal will see Whistles spun out of its parent group Mosaic Fashions, which also owns Oasis and Karen Millen, through an acquisition by a newly formed company.

It is understood Shepherdson and her management team will own a 20% stake in Whistles.

Kidney House’ was sealed by Delhi Police eight years ago

This was a good eight years back in December 2000. And it involved the same man. The Gurgaon police was advised to keep an eye on the premises. But guess what happened? The house was reopened and put to use for the same nefarious activities.

Delhi Police now allege that the local police was hand in glove with the accused and the illegal operations in the house would have been impossible without their connivance. “We don't understand how even after booking a person and sealing his premises for an illegal activity, the local police did not pay attention to this racket. It is amazing that the same premises was used with such audacity. It would not have been possible without the tacit support of the local police," said a Delhi Police officer.

“We had sealed the house as it was being used a clinic for organ transplants.

Earnings Preview: Kraft Foods

Under the terms of the deal, current Kraft shareholders will own about 54 percent of the new Ralcorp when the deal is complete.

Also in November, Kraft and Procter & Gamble Co. sued each other related to the use of plastic containers for coffee brands Maxwell House and Folger's.

Kraft alleged that a plastic container for P&G's Folger's brand infringed on Kraft's patents in use with its Maxwell House brand.

BY THE NUMBERS: Kraft has not offered any guidance for the quarter. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect earnings of 44 cents per share on revenue of $10.05 billion.

ANALYST TAKE: Deutsche Bank analyst Eric Katzman said in a note to investors that Kraft has posted several quarters of solid sales growth and he expects that to continue in the fourth quarter.
